4 classesThe University of Toronto uses a 4.0 GPA scale across all faculties. Letter grades convert directly to GPA values (A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, etc.). Both unweighted GPA per term (sessional GPA) and cumulative GPA (CGPA) across all completed terms are tracked.

FAQ — UofT
01What is a good GPA at UofT?
A cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 3.0+ is considered solid at UofT. 3.5+ qualifies for the Dean’s List honour roll in most faculties. 3.7+ is required for High Distinction at graduation, and 3.85+ for Distinction. Graduate-school applicants typically need 3.3 minimum and 3.7+ to be competitive.
02How is UofT GPA different from US universities?
UofT uses the same 4.0 GPA scale as US schools, so the calculation is identical. The key difference is how courses are weighted: UofT uses 0.5-credit (half-year) and 1.0-credit (full-year) courses, where US schools typically use 3-4 credit hours per course. Adjust the credits input accordingly.
03What is CGPA at UofT?
CGPA stands for Cumulative GPA — the weighted average of every course you’ve completed at UofT, across all sessions. Sessional GPA is just for one term. Annual GPA covers Fall and Winter. CGPA is what appears on your transcript and is what graduate schools and employers look at.
04Does UofT use plus/minus grading?
Yes. UofT uses a +/- letter system where A+ and A both equal 4.0, A- equals 3.7, B+ equals 3.3, B equals 3.0, B- equals 2.7, and so on down to F at 0.0. Some courses are graded CR/NCR (Credit / No Credit) and don’t affect CGPA.
