4 classesTexas A&M uses the standard 4.0 scale but does NOT use +/- grading for undergraduate GPA — plain letter grades only (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0). The cumulative GPA is called "Cumulative GPR" (Grade Point Ratio) at A&M. The Q-drop policy lets students drop courses without GPR penalty.

FAQ — TAMU
01What is a good Texas A&M GPA (GPR)?
A 3.0 cumulative GPR at TAMU is solid. 3.5+ qualifies for the Dean’s Honor List. Latin honors at graduation: Cum Laude 3.50+, Magna Cum Laude 3.70+, Summa Cum Laude 3.90+, with additional minimum-credit requirements. Mays Business and Engineering graduate programs typically expect 3.3-3.5+.
02Does Texas A&M use plus/minus grading?
No — Texas A&M’s undergraduate GPR uses plain letter grades only (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0). Some graduate programs and the College of Law use +/- grading, but the undergraduate GPR calculation does not.
03How does TAMU’s Q-drop policy affect GPR?
Texas A&M lets undergraduates drop up to 3 courses (Q-drops) during their entire degree with a "Q" on the transcript instead of an "F". Q-drops do not affect GPR. After the third Q-drop or after the deadline, dropped courses become "F" and do affect GPR.
04What is the Texas A&M minimum GPR to graduate?
TAMU requires a 2.0 cumulative GPR to graduate, plus a 2.0 GPR in your declared major. Some majors (Engineering, Business, Nursing) require higher progression GPRs (typically 2.5-3.0) and may impose specific course-grade minimums.
