FAQ — ASU
01What is a good GPA at ASU?
A 3.0 cumulative GPA at ASU is solid. 3.5+ qualifies for Dean’s List recognition each semester. For Latin honors at graduation: Cum Laude 3.40+, Magna Cum Laude 3.60+, Summa Cum Laude 3.80+. Barrett Honors College admission targets 3.5+ for current ASU students.
02Does ASU use plus/minus grading?
Yes. ASU uses the +/- system: A+ and A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D = 1.0, E = 0.0 (ASU uses "E" instead of "F" for failure).
03How does ASU’s grade replacement policy affect my GPA?
ASU lets undergraduate students retake a course and have the most recent grade replace the original in their cumulative GPA, up to a total of 12 credit hours of grade replacement. Both attempts still appear on the transcript, but only the latest grade counts toward CGPA.
04What is the minimum GPA to stay at ASU?
Undergraduates need to maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain in good academic standing. Below 2.0 triggers academic probation; sustained low performance leads to academic disqualification. Major-specific minimums (Engineering, Business) are typically 2.5-3.0.
