FAQ — FSU
01What is a good GPA at FSU?
A 3.0 cumulative GPA at FSU is solid. 3.5+ qualifies for the President’s List with a 4.0 semester GPA being separate. Latin honors at FSU graduation: Cum Laude 3.40+, Magna Cum Laude 3.60+, Summa Cum Laude 3.80+ (with at least 60 FSU credits). Graduate programs typically expect 3.0 minimum and 3.5+ for competitive admission.
02Does FSU use plus/minus grading?
Yes. FSU uses +/- grading: A+ / A = 4.0, A- = 3.75, B+ = 3.25, B = 3.0, B- = 2.75, C+ = 2.25, C = 2.0, C- = 1.75, D+ = 1.25, D = 1.0, D- = 0.75, F = 0.0. The .25 and .75 increments are slightly different from the more common .3 / .7 system used at some schools.
03What GPA do I need to keep Bright Futures at FSU?
Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) recipients need to maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at FSU after each academic year. Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) need 2.75. Both also require completing 24 credit hours per academic year while enrolled full-time.
04What is FSU’s minimum GPA to stay enrolled?
Undergraduates need a 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain in good standing. Sustained low GPA triggers academic warning, then probation, then dismissal. Major-specific minimums (Business, Computer Science) may be 2.5-3.0 for progression into upper-division courses.
